This past Saturday 01/27/2019, President Trump revealed an offer in which he requested $5.7 billion funding for the U.S.-Mexico border wall, in exchange for three-year protections for 700,000 immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children, and those immigrating to the United States due to the tense political setting and/or humanitarian crisis in their own country.
Today, the Supreme Court didn’t act on Trump’s Administration effort to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program which means that DACA is still in effect. Undocumented immigrants who qualify for DACA will still be eligible to receive protections under the Program.
The continuation of DACA is a positive news for the immigrant community who looks forward to a comprehensive immigration reform in the following years.
Immigration advocates hope that the Congress will soon pass a reform which will provide eligible immigrants with the opportunity to become legal residents, if they respond to certain qualifications.
